On Friday, I finished rebuilding a hinged roof for the pool shed. We need to be able to raise the roof to allow access to the sand filter controls and the other filter at the back of the shed.

Before painting the new roof, I used the industrial vacuum cleaner to suck out all of the leaves at the back of the shed. I also discovered cement dust dating back years to when the pool heater was installed.

I approached this job carefully as macadamia nut shells hinted there had been rodent activity, but there was no nest. I was also wary of the possibility of snakes. We had built the corrugated iron fence to hide the ugly paling fence, and our rear neighbours’ ridiculously thick hedge, which is now about 2m deep. All sorts of creatures could hide under there. The gap under the fence became a job that climbed up the priority list to make sure it gets done before spring.
The pool service technicians have been sloppy with the pool acid, as metal brackets are badly corroded or have rusted away into the ether.

Today I cut the polycarbonate roofing to size and screwed down the top section. I didn’t manage to finish this as Bluey needed his social outing. He was really put out yesterday – Anita was away, and none of his friends showed up at the park. When I picked Anita up from the station this morning, he was very happy and excited. He also caught up with his friends this afternoon, and all is well in his world.

I am also taking small steps to finish other projects, such as painting the timber posts to support the second gate to be relocated to create the cat enclosure. I am slowly making a cross-cut sled for my table saw. This was delayed waiting 2 weeks for a pair of aluminium runners. My hope is to replace the marble top onto the cabinet removed for the lift install. This will provide a flat level surface needed for some jobs.
The handles fitted in our kitchen are no longer available, but the local Handles Plus shop managed to find some that are almost the same. I fitted these to the pantry cupboard doors, but that reminded me of some finishing work still needed in the pantry, such as fitting the mirror spashback.
We went out splashback.
